- William Hadden came with his parents and siblings to Texas from Indiana in 1823, settling near Columbus, Texas. He served in the Texas Revolution under Dimmitt, Collinsworth and Horton. He signed the first Declaration of Independence for Texas and participated in the capture of Goliad. He later escaped the massacre of Fannin's troops at Goliad, settling in Matagorda and Wharton counties. He married Mary Jane Criswell and they had eight children, with only two surviving to adulthood: Eliza Hadden Schultz and Virginia "Scrap" Hadden Fitzgerald. Mary Jane died in December of 1866, with William following close behind in January of 1867. These two graves were surveyed in the 1930's and said to by "on the John Hadden Survey near Alleyton."
